Museum of Iron – Coalbrookdale
COALBROOKDALE MUSEUM OF IRON – Full Refurbishment & Exhibition Redevelopment
World Heritage Site | Museum Refurbishment | Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust
The Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust’s collection of ten museums, sits at the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site—the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The museum celebrates the global significance of iron production and the pioneering role of Coalbrookdale in transforming industries and societies across the world.
Osbornes Architects helped deliver the complete refurbishment of the museum, supporting the creation of a fully renewed and expanded exhibition. The revamped displays tell the compelling story of how iron—and particularly Coalbrookdale iron—reshaped technology, infrastructure and everyday life on a global scale.
The project involved sensitive works within a historic building, coordination with curatorial teams and exhibition designers, and careful planning to enhance visitor experience while protecting the architectural integrity of this internationally significant heritage site.
