THISTLE TRAFALGAR HOTEL– Window Replacement within Trafalgar Square Conservation Area
High-Performance Glazing | Conservation Area Consent | Acoustic & Thermal Upgrades

Osbornes Architects secured permission for the full replacement of windows at the Thistle Trafalgar Hotel, located within the Trafalgar Square Conservation Area and immediately neighbouring the National Gallery. Given the sensitivity of the location, the proposal required a careful and well-justified heritage approach to ensure that improved performance could be achieved without compromising the building’s appearance or the wider historic streetscape.

Osbornes undertook detailed studies to identify high-performance glazing solutions capable of replacing the original single-glazed units. The selected system delivers significant improvements in thermal efficiency and acoustic performance, supporting better energy use, guest comfort and operational sustainability.

The upgrade also removes the need for the existing secondary-glazing system, simplifying the internal environment and improving the overall experience for hotel guests while retaining the visual character appropriate for a landmark conservation area site.
