THE PEPPERPOT, MALVERN – Conservation Repairs to Scheduled Ancient Monument
Scheduled Monument Repairs | Stonework & Leadwork Conservation | English Heritage Liaison

Osbornes Architects undertook conservation works to The Pepperpot, a Scheduled Ancient Monument of significant historic importance. The project involved specialist repairs to both the interior and exterior fabric, beginning with the tanking of the below-ground section of the existing visitor gift shop to prevent water ingress and improve long-term resilience.

Externally, the scheme included extensive stonework repairs, leadwork renewal, and careful conservation detailing to safeguard the building’s fragile historic fabric. Given the monument’s protected status, the project required close consultation with English Heritage, ensuring that all materials, methods and repair strategies met national conservation standards.

Due to the building’s form and position, access proved highly challenging. The works required experienced steeplejacks to erect scaffold around the structure—certainly not a project for those with a fear of heights. Their involvement allowed sensitive repairs to be undertaken safely while protecting the monument’s character.
