MANCHESTER OPERA HOUSE
Historic Theatre Restoration | Window & Render Repairs | Operational Theatre Works
Osbornes Architects undertook detailed surveys of the historic windows at the Manchester Opera House and prepared comprehensive repair schedules and construction details to guide their conservation. Alongside the window works, Osbornes secured planning approval for a wider scheme of render repair, façade decoration, new lead detailing and an updated external colour scheme, enhancing the longevity and appearance of this prominent theatre.
Internally, Osbornes led the restoration of the below-ground stalls bar, returning it to its former character. This included the reintroduction of a pavement light—previously covered over—and the complete overhaul of the original glazed inner screen, which had deteriorated and been concealed behind a lightweight partition.
All works were carefully planned and executed while the theatre remained fully operational, demonstrating Osbornes’ experience in delivering complex heritage projects within live performance environments.
