MANCHESTER PALACE THEATRE
Grade II Listed Theatre | Ventilation Upgrade | Complex Internal Access Work
Osbornes Architects were appointed to deliver specialist architectural services at the Grade II listed Manchester Palace Theatre, addressing long-standing overheating issues within the auditorium by introducing a carefully designed fresh-air ventilation system.
Given the theatre’s listed status, the works required meticulous planning to identify appropriate service routes and suitable locations for new air-handling units, ensuring that all interventions were fully compliant with heritage requirements and visually unobtrusive.
To facilitate the installation of new ductwork and to carry out essential repairs to the ornate auditorium ceiling, the project required the construction of a complex internal scaffold. This highly controlled access solution allowed intrusive works to be undertaken safely while protecting delicate historic fabric.
The scheme demonstrates Osbornes’ expertise in delivering technical performance upgrades within operational heritage theatres, balancing modern environmental needs with conservation sensitivity.
