GREYSTONES FARM – Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust
Heritage Farm Building Conservation | Café & Education Spaces | Archaeology-Sensitive Design

Osbornes Architects were appointed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust to refurbish and extend a group of derelict historic farm buildings at one of their key sites in Bourton-on-the-Water. The project sought to transform the unused structures into a vibrant visitor hub while retaining their rural character and ecological value.

The scheme presented several significant challenges, including the need to conserve the existing buildings, protect fragile historic fabric, and work within strict archaeological constraints that restricted the depth of new foundations, service runs and drainage solutions. Through careful detailing and sensitive intervention, Osbornes achieved a design that respected both the built and archaeological heritage of the site.

The completed works delivered a new café, education suite and exhibition space, providing facilities that support the Trust’s ecological, educational and community-focused mission. Since opening fully in 2018, the site has become a well-used destination with a growing list of café regulars and an expanded programme of educational activities.
