LITTLEDALE HOUSE, HEREFORDSHIRE
Replacement Dwelling | Arts & Crafts Architecture | Bespoke Joinery & Craft Detailing
This project involved the demolition of an existing cottage and the construction of a new Arts and Crafts style home. The client’s brief centred on the architectural principles of Charles Voysey, and Osbornes Architects developed a scheme that reflects this distinctive design language both externally and internally.
The house is characterised by a complex arrangement of intersecting roof forms, carefully composed to break down the overall mass and create the varied, sculptural roofscape typical of the Arts and Crafts movement. Externally, the design incorporates traditional proportions, deep overhanging eaves, and a restrained material palette that echoes Voysey’s approach.
Internally, the building features extensive bespoke joinery, handcrafted details and carefully considered stone elements, creating continuity between the exterior aesthetic and the interior architectural expression. Repeated motifs and crafted components ensure that the Arts and Crafts character is woven throughout, delivering a home that balances craftsmanship, simplicity and timeless architectural quality.
